Okay, so we have all drooled over men in uniform at some point in life. However, if you have ever dated someone in the armed forces, you would know what “bowled over” truly means. Men holding doors, pulling out chairs and generally being courteous all the while are a dream for all women and men in uniform have fulfilled those for years. There is a certain amount of pride when you walk next to an army guy and there’s no hiding it. To add to the romance, films like The Aviator and Pearl Harbor have worked wonders and given us major romantic goals.
However, being an army wife is a different experience altogether. For you, the greatest joy would be your husband coming home from distant places or being safe while being in dangerous zones. When all is said and done, there is no better time than homecoming when you would be with your husband and make up for lost time. Apart from being a kickass military wife who stays strong during times of trial, army wives also have a fun side and enjoy the many perks that the military life offers. If you have been bitten by the travel bug, getting married to an army soldier may be the best thing to happen to you. If not, you will start enjoying once you are initiated to it. Army men are posted to different places across the country every two years or so and there’s no opportunity like this to explore the country. It’s like an extended vacation where you soak in the beauty of the place and also LIVE the local life. Unless they are posted in remote areas like Leh and Ladakh, you can accompany them to most places and tick them off your bucket list. Not to mention, the base camps are spread over vast areas and have beautiful view points, which only you will have access to. 😉

Being an army wife also means adjusting to many things. However, this adjusting is a happy one since you meet so many people and become part of their lives. People staying together in an army camp are brought closer due to similar circumstances and form very strong bonds that last for life. You will meet chivalrous men and brave women who will be your family and friends for the duration of the posting and later. Next thing you know, you will end up making friends all over the country.
BENEFIT, BENEFIT & BENEFIT
Yes, it’s an all-encompassing term but so are most of the benefits of being an army wife. Did we mention you will live rent-free? Oh yes, that and many more. Most expenses are cut down in the armed forces as the supplies are subsidized. From basic essentials like pantry supplies and linens to other items like crockery and bags – everything is offered at a cheaper price. (Don’t forget the imported scotch whiskeys and Russian vodkas at discounted prices!) And the party doesn’t stop after the retirement! You’re entitled to many of these post retirement.

WHO CAN SAY NO TO A GOOD PARTY?
If you have been a party-loving person, getting married to a soldier, will also provide you with several opportunities to put on your dancing shoes. Parties in the armed forces life are a class above. You are surrounded by the very best of everything – wine, food, men *coughs*, ambiance – name it and they have it. They also have prom like balls where it’s a sight to behold all the men in uniform and their gorgeous women moving in rhythm to the music.
