All wedding venues in Maharashtra need written permission from the state pollution board to burst firecrackers, play blaring music or be loud in any other way. Basically, you need authorized approval to have a loud and noisy wedding. (let’s face it, all Indian weddings are loud and noisy.)

All wedding venues in Maharashtra, be in banquets or halls, cannot use loudspeakers or burst firecrackers without a specific written permission from either the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) or the police. Police authority shall ensure that there are no sound systems / noise violations in silent zones.

So yeah, when you book your wedding venue, do check with them about this and how to go about it.

Dry and wet (organic) waste segregation on the wedding venue was another rule issued by the government after a National Green Tribunal (NGT) order on July 3 that directed the state pollution board to oversee activities at wedding venues under specific environmental guidelines.

“In case of unauthorised, haphazard dumping by wedding halls/lawns, they will be liable to pay Rs 50,000 as an environmental cost, per incident to their respective civic body,” the notification read.

In respect to this, wedding halls and lawns need to apply for consent under environmental laws, including the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 to the regional officer, MPCB.
